Avital Reshef was born in Israel in 1983 and began studying guitar with Mr. Hanan Feinstein. In 2001 Avital graduated from the Israeli Arts and Science Academy, where he studied composition with Professor Andre Hajdu and Mr. Michael Wolpe. Between the years 2001-2004 Avital served in the IDF (the Israeli military) in a special program for gifted musicians, after which, he continued to study the guitar at the Conservatorium Maastricht with Professor Carlo Marchione, completing both a Bachelor and a Masters Degree in 2008, while graduating Cum Laude. In 2007 Avital began studying the lute with Professor Konrad Junghänel at the early music department of the Hochschule for Music Cologne. Avital has won several awards, including 1st prize at the 2001 Israeli Guitar Competition (in memory of Arian Urshalmi) for young players. In the adults competitions in 2002-2003 he was a finalist and received a special award for the best interpretation of Rodrigo's pieces (2002). Avital has also received several scholarships, including continuous scholarships between 1998-2006 from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation, and from the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in 2005. Avital has participated in master classes with distinguished guitar players, such as Gallén, Tanenbaum, Socias, Ivanovic, Pierri, Russell, Schmidt, Hoppstock, Müller-Pering. Several of Avital's arrangements have been performed by The Israeli Chamber Orchestra and the Kaprizma Ensemble. Avital is also an active performer of contemporary music, and has collaborated with leading Israeli ensembles such as the Kaprizma Ensemble and Musica Nova Group. He has played in the debuts of pieces by composers from Israel, South-Korea and Switzerland. Avital has performed on many important stages throughout Israel, such as Targ Centre, Mishkanot Music Centre Jerusalem, Einav Centre, and in major festivals, including Israeli Music Days and Sounds of the Desert.
